Bird Topography Workshop

with David Sibley

Saturday morning, March 22nd

9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Sorry! the workshop is full.

David Allen Sibley has agreed to conduct a “Bird Topography” workshop for us, Saturday morning, following the Annual Dinner. The workshop will be held in the Duck Club (building) at the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine. David has requested that we limit the number of workshop participants to 50 people. In this 2-hour drawing workshop for birders, David Sibley will demonstrate how he captures the characteristics of the birds in his renowned field guides. So bring along your sketch pad and pencils to draw along with him.

A largely self-taught bird illustrator, he was inspired to pursue creating his own illustrated field guide after leading tours in the 1980s and 1990s, and finding that existing field guides did not generally illustrate or describe alternate or juvenile bird plumages, He cites European artist, Lara Jonsson, as a great influence on his own work.

David Sibley has written and illustrated many articles on bird identification for Birding and American Birds (now Field Guides), as well as regional publications and books. He says the intellectual challenge of identifying birds is what keeps him going, with the opportunity to learn new things every time he goes in the field.

Cost of the workshop is $75 per person. Space will be limited and the workshop is almost full, so don’t wait until the last minute to sign up! For reservations, please send this form and your check (payable to Sea & Sage Audubon) to: Workshop, c/o Nancy Kenyon, 32 Almond Tree Ln, Irvine CA 92612.

Please do not combine your payment for the dinner and the workshop in one check; write out a separate check for the workshop. Your ticket for the workshop will be mailed back to you, so you will need to include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your workshop reservation form & check. (Tickets will be mailed on March 3rd.) We expect the workshop to sell out.
