special trip was one of the items available for bidding at our
March 20th Annual Dinner. The people who won the winning bid
decided they didn't want it after all and so turned it back
to us again. Once again, bids are open for this special trip. |

frame: The trip must be used between May 1 and
July 2009 or between August 23 and October 25, 2009. |
| What's
included? |

Round trip Air Fare to
Detroit or Flint, Michigan. From there, you can get your own
tickets for a shuttle plane to Pellston Airport and then catch
the ferry to Mackinac Island. (Yo ut stay in Michigan can be
extended past the 2 night/3 day stay.) The airline tickets are
worth $1000. |

Explore the island on bicycles which you
can rent there, walk, or travel by carriage. (No cars are allowed
on the island.) |

BIRDING: Bird Mackinac
Island or the surrounding waters of the Straits of Mack inc.
Birds can be observed in a variety of
habitats in the state park A bird checklist is available which
lists over 160 species. (You can order the checklist from the
Marcia Parks website for 75¢) . |
| Habitats
in the park include: northern hardwood
forest - which covers much of the park's
interior; Lowland conifer forests
near the shoreline and in damp areas throughout the park; Open
Areas such as the fields and meadows near the airport
and Wawashkamo golf course; and Wetlands,
such as Croghan's Marsh. |
| Examples
of Birds found on the island include:
Tundra Swan, Horned Grebe, Osprey, Bald Eagle, Black-billed
Cuckoo, Whip-poor-will, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Purple Martin,
Eastern Bluebird, Bohemian Waxwing, Magnolia Warbler, Rose-breasted
Grosbeak, Northern Oriole, and Purple Finch. |

Visit Fort Mackinac, sentinel of the Straits
of Mackinac for 224 years. Witness hourly rifle demonstrations,
cannon firings and tours by costumed guides. |

See historic downtown Mackinac Island
which features fur trade era homes and shops, as well as grand
Victorian cottages. |

Visit beautiful Mackinac Island State Park. |
| •
Two butterfly conservancies offer visitors
a chance to see native and exotic species up close. |

visit Historic Mackinac Point Lighthouse
which guided ships through the Straits of Mackinac from 1892
to 1957; it has public tours. It is located in nearby Mackinac
City. Visitors will see exhibits, period settings, historical
interpreters in costume. |

Plan a day trip to nearby St. Ignace and
Mackinac City to visit the Father Marquette Memorial honoring
the founder of St.Ign ace. Experience Colonial Michilimackinac,
an 18th century fur trade and military outpost with a dozen
reconstructed buildings, and guides dressed as British redcoats,
French voyageurs, colonial villagers, and American Indians. |
