2010
Least Tern & Snowy Plover Project

August 25 - Year End Barbecue & Awards

Close to 20 Least Tern project volunteers attended the End-of-the-Year Barbecue at the Huntington Beach Life Guard Headquarters. The food was delicious, the barbecued items were tasty, and everyone enjoyed socializing before the meal. After dinner, Cheryl Egger showed photos she had taken of Snowy Plover chicks which were rescued from abandoned nests at Bolsa Chica and cared for at the Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center. Cheryl described each stage of their development and talked about the plover chicks' behavior. Claire Grozinger told us about her involvement monitoring the new Least Tern nesting sites at Bolsa Chica. David Prior announced the 2010 California Least Tern Awards for our volunteer group (see list below). He also shared with us some of the more interesting observations he'd received from our LETE monitors and reviewed some of the stats from this year's LETE nesting season at Huntington State Beach.
