On
June 25th, a kestrel was spotted in the early a.m., but
no chicks were seen taken. However a kestrel was seen at
10:00 a.m. and he took a fledgling.
On July 2nd, we did not see any predator activity, and actually,
the beach wasn't that crowded for a holiday weekend (yet!).
We are still seeing a few chicks hatching, but most of this
year's birds are flying already, making them more difficult
to count.

Thanks
for this note Cyndie.
During June we got hit by American kestrels pretty hard. From
all of our observations by volunteers, staff, Wally Ross,
and monitor comments, I count 25 observed chicks preyed on
by kestrels. The last couple of weeks have slowed significantly.
In response, Wally Ross set traps on 14 days for a total of
102 trap-hours. No kestrels were captured.
