Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the delay in the weekly update. . . we did not monitor Friday, June 5, due to the rain. Here are the most current numbers (thanks Nicole)
In the Colony In the Front Yard Grand Total
305 nests total 87 nests total 392 nests total
148 nests hatched 52 nests hatched 198 nests hatched
250 chicks 90 chicks 340 chicks

Comments: So far we have only found a few dead chicks. However, we did see 2 kestrels on Friday (from about 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.). . . they swooped in on the colony a few times and landed on the ground. It appeared as though one of them may have taken a chick (it was difficult to tell). We notified Wally & David immediately. The kestrels were hanging out on the telephone poles on the other side of PCH as well as the fencing around the Preserve.

We are comtinuing to see some new nests, and there are lots of chicks running around! There are a few chicks in the front yard area that actually look quite large already.

Have a great week
