May 9th - Latest Counts at the Preserve

Here's a message from Sue, one of the monitors who does counts on the inside of the Preserve. She will be sending us a report each week.
Hi all. We have walked through the colony twice now, May 2 and May 9. The birds are courting and making scrapes but we have not found eggs. We will go out again Friday, May 16. After that, assuming that nesting is picking up, we will go out on Tuesdays and Fridays. Cyndie will come out on Tuesdays, Dick on Fridays. Dick made three very wonderful blinds so we envision two - three people surveying in blinds and anyone else, watching and taking notes on behavior and activity. Last week we estimated 75-100 birds, today it was difficult to estimate as the birds didn't flush all at once to get a good count, but there were probably a few more than last week based on the amount of calling.
