Least Tern/Snowy Plover Project 2007
May 31 - LETE Project Information

Hi,

Nancy Kenyon has re-designed the LETE/SNPL pages of the Sea and Sage website. . . .She tells me it is still under construction and she will be adding new information and photos, very soon, possibly by tomorrow. She has done a great job on this. If any of you have done any web design, you know now time consuming it is. Please take advantage of this part of the website to get posted information and enjoy the photos. Let us know if you have any ideas about other things that could be posted. Thank you, Nancy!

Also attached (below) is a copy of the announcements for the next field trip to the tern colony on June 20, that will also include a tour of Talbert Marsh and a potluck beach BBQ. Please come if you can and let anyone who might be interested know about it. RSVPs are needed for the potluck BBQ only--see the (information below).

Thank you all for helping the terns and watching for plovers!
—Cheryl

Talbert Marsh Field Trip
Wednesday, June 20th, 2:15 p.m.
Leader: Lena Hayashi

We have a rare opportunity for a guided tour at the Talbert Marsh. The tides should be in our favor for a variety of birds, including shorebirds, terns and gulls.

We will finish the field trip at the California Least Tern Natural Preserve, where guided by a Preserve representative, we will observe the nesting activities of this protected species.

Assemble at 2:15 at Huntington State Beach near the Ramada A area. Please enter at the Magnolia Street entrance and proceed south just past the Brookhurst Street entrance. From the parking area near Ramada A, we will proceed in just a few cars to the Talbert Marsh, which is not normally accessible by car.
The entrance fee will be waived for individuals who plan to attend the educational tour at the Tern Preserve.

Wednesday, June 20th
Huntington State Beach

Immediately following the Talbert Marsh and Least Tern field trip, the Conservation Committee will host a potluck picnic and hot dog roast at Huntington State Beach. Sea and Sage is reserved at Ramada A (closest to the Talbert Channel). Please bring your own plate and utensils, and a dish to share for eight people (your choice: side or main dish, dessert, salad, etc.). Sea and Sage will provide the hot dogs, buns and condiments, plus water and soft drinks. We suggest sunscreen and something warm in case it turns chilly. We also suggest bringing your own folding chair. If you have any long bbq forks to use for roasting the hot dogs, we ask that you please bring those too.
You must “register” for the picnic so we can get a count for the hot dogs and drinks. Please RSVP to Nancy Kenyon at or phone her at 949-261-7963 and give her your name(s) and phone number.
